where do i start,,spelling lessons i hear you shout,i no i no,am not to hot,it may take a while,,,that is to get this part of the web site complete, well we have been playing quiet some time now,and had a few line up changes,as i will go into, but let me think,,,ah,,,nite ride, rip tells me the formed in the mid 70"S with rich mellor on bass, rip on drums, and his brother ray on guitar,,with deric on occasional vocals until ray found his feet.they played many gig around the midlands, clubs,,,pubs partys ect,,with many storys to tell of,,commitees,,noise meters,,drunken heklers,,,I can clearly remember seeing one of there shows at parwich village hall, i must have been about 14 or so learning at the time to play guitar ,i took a keen interest in there performance.By the early 80"s The miners strike era was about and alot of the clubs they played were just closing down, the frill had gone, they all had young family"s and it was time to call it a day,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
a very young niteride !
Those of you who have seen us play may not remember much about the band, but remember that nice old guy with the photo album, that guy ,who i call the band mascot, is deric hirst,A legend in his own right,he has enough history to have his own web site,,or two!Deric is father of rip and ray,and has a big part to play in the beging part of nite ride, and has allways given full support to the band to this day, deric has got the remarkable ability to be able to talk to any one, anywhere, any time, and on many, many occasions, within seconds of being at a venue he has made freinds and is an insperation to me and others, what a great quality to have!!!whats more he has got photos of allmost every gig that biglix have done,,and thats some pictures.cheers dude.

Andy............I remember watching Bad Reputation at Rocester football club in about 1986.

bad reputation
While nite ride was winding down, paul siddal(drums) and jon bigland(guitar) was in there second band(after amethyst) bad reputation, with jason callear on vocals(later to be biglix drummer)playing all original material ,and being quiet succesful in the midlands, they got to play buxton opera house twice, and got some great gigs like winding wheel chesterfield, loughboughrough(i cant spell)university, and got 2nd place in in battle of the bands competion, two studio albums, one live record,,,a singer with throat problems,,and wig wam bam ,it was all over,,,,,,but great fun,,what next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A year or so passed and paul got to no rip, rich, n ray through meeting up at his local,,and the lix was born, the first pratice was at wyaston village hall,i remember rich bringing his burns bass and an old valve amp coverd in dust, not for long,we worked on a set list including free, bad company,ac/dc material,,,,we was ready to gig,,
THE FIRST GIG WAS BOOKED!!!
Our first gig as biglix was at biggin carnival in a tent, followed by gig at a friends barby,q,at fenny bently, that freind was andy smith, who is now playing with big lix, ironic or what!!!this first line up was held for at least 3 years with rip on sound desk.

This is one of many ashbourne carnival floats we did, photo was taken by andy smith, these were great fun and we played live on the float powerd up with a generator,Two drummers on this float rip and paul siddal(dude).Dave smith pulled us through town this year, smooth opperator,i remember doing a pirate ship one year, and steve weston pulling us round town, and an american football team,if you have any photos let us have them.sadly ashbourne has no more carnivals, just bagpipes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was time to bring in a good vocalist, neil burgess was that man,Neil gave the band that much more freedom to play a more varried set, with material from sting,,squeeze,,crowded house,,sex pistols,,,t rex,,,bowie.Paul was next to leave and jason callear was next on the drums, and backing vocal, what a great talent to,this line up lasted at seven years or so.IT was all change again ,Next to join the band was chris on vocals in which he did a great job but it was not to be,,,,,,and ray got married in retired,IT"S rock n roll you know!!!!
That brings us about up to date,,rip is now on drums, and andy smith is on guitar,as for a new vocalist, watch this space!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IT COULD BE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
